Stiff-Crete™
High Durability Deck Slab & Early Opening to Traffic
Summary
A thin-layer surface reinforcement method using UHPFRC (ultra-high-performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite material) "Stiff-CreteTM" was developed for the reinforcement of existing deck slabs. This method can significantly improve the long-term durability of the slab while minimizing the thickness increase of the slab.
The newly developed Stiff-Crete is a material that takes advantage of the room temperature curing UFC "Slim-Crete". The use of ultra-high strength material enables reinforcement in thin layers and provides excellent long-term durability. Furthermore, the high early strength of the Stiff-CreteTM enables early opening to traffic, minimal impact on highway users, and is applicable for bridges with a sloped surface.
Features
High Durability
- Compressive strength 130 N/mm² (18,855 psi) or more, cracking at 6 N/mm² (28 days).
- Durability and freeze-thaw resistance are greatly improved, preventing settling.
- High watertightness and high salt barrier properties inhibit the penetration of deteriorating factors.
Early Opening to Traffic
- Compressive strength of 24 N/mm² (3,480 psi) or more in 3hours.
- Strong integration with existing concrete (adhesion strength 1.0 N/mm² in 3 hours)
- Waterproofing can be simplified or omitted. (*1)

Installation with Smaller Equipment
- Fluidity can be maintained for about 30 minutes, allowing for application with a small screed, vibrating trowel, etc.
- The dedicated on-board mixer, which can be installed within a single-lane width, enables mixing and continuous construction.
